As c\u00e9lulas ciliadas na orelha interna ficam danificadas e afetam a transmiss\u00e3o dos sinais para os nervos auditivos. Pode ser decorrente do processo natural de envelhecimento, exposi\u00e7\u00e3o ao ru\u00eddo, medica\u00e7\u00e3o ou fraturas do cr\u00e2nio.
